My System

Bad image quality on an 8800 gtx

My friend bought a 8800 gtx and it worked for 2 months and died he sent in for rma when the new card came he used it and for around 2-3 months its has been and now it still gets good frame rates but image quality is somethimes bad and he is annoyed.

I do not know much about the computer but it has some sort of sli amd motherboard
a AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+(65W) Windsor 2.4GHz 2 x 512KB L2 Cache Socket AM2 Processor
2 gb of ram
some sort of 650 watt that came with the computer(alienware)
and 2x120 bg hdd in raid 0

what are the volts on the 12v rail for that psu? try speedfan or Sensor View Pro to see these if you dont feel comfortable opening up computer

Your friend's PSU is likely the issue. I wouldn't be surprised if Alienware didn't give a high quality PSU. Take a look at this:

Ok, it is his birthday this weekend (perfect timing) so if you are sure that the psu is the problem i will tell him to get a new one (his is 6 months old). But if there is a chance it is not the problem then please tell me what it is.

you have to give more info on the issue he is having... bad image quality where? desktop? games? and what sort of problems is he seeing?

He sees it in games and said it looks worse then the card that i have now (the card that came with his pc) it is almost as if it is getting set down a notch in settings even though it is on the highest.

did he reinstall drivers? check in game that the right resolution is set? psu wouldnt cause image quality problems, it would cause a message to pop up saying that the card isnt recieving enough power.
