I'm sorry if this is not the correct place to post this but I can not identify the root of my problem.
Here's my system related software/hardware: Windowz XP Newly installed P4P800-E Deluxe [ a refurb from ASUS] BIOS ver. 1009 ATI 9000 Pro [ previously installed on a P4B533-E ] 8X video card Latest Catalyst d/l from ATI and installed. New Thermaletake 430 W power supply. All seems normal. I just ran AIDA32 & SiSandra for kicks and grins and both report that my video card is capable of 1X - 8X but is running at 4X.. I went into the BIOS and can not find any entry for selecting the the X multiplier. I assume the motherboard detects the X multiplier in some way. I "think" my P4B533-E had a selection of 4x or 8X but I'm not sure of this. Could one of you guru's tell me how to get this video card to run at 8X ? Is there something mechanical I should have done to set this to 8X ? Would greatly appreciate it.. All is Magic Forgot to add [ don't think this has anything to do with the prob but] I just installed a new Samsung 226BW monitor after the "re-build" - all monitor resolution, up to 1680 x 1050, are supported by the 9000 Pro. Re: ATI 9000 PRO - How to get it to 8X
HI,
I believe the Radeon 9000 only supports AGP 4x. Even if you were to set it to 8x, you would experience a very minimal performance gain, if any.

Re: ATI 9000 PRO - How to get it to 8X

The difference between 4x and 8x is considerable in games - but not very noticable in normal applications I agree.. I've looked through all my "stuff" and I can not find anything about any "settings" except in the BIOS of the old P4B533 I removed to make way for the P4P800.. I have another system with the motherbord installed [P4P800 ] with aN ATI 98oo Pro and it runs at 8X AND I don't remember doing anything to get it to run at 8X - but the setup was a long time ago and my memory is getting mushey... Thanks for the response though..... TizMagic

Re: ATI 9000 PRO - How to get it to 8X
Even in games, 4x isn't twice as slow, it just means the interface's max bandwidth is cut in half. That card isn't high end enough that it will utilize the bandwidth of AGP 8x.
Does the BIOS say anywhere about modifying the AGP settings or what the current AGP settings are?

I don't know anything about if this card will support 8x or not but it states the it will. I'm not all that concerned about getting this to 8X just thought that would be nice if I could. The BIOS does not have any indication or setting that I've found to indicate what the card is set at or can be set to. Which is sort of strange that it does not. That is why I assumed that the motherbord some way detects the multiplier in some way but I don't know how this is done. Well, no worry since it seems to be working ok for what I normally do.. Thanks guy for trying.. |
