Graphics not putting out 1440 by 900 for external monitor.
I am having trouble configuring my monitor (westinghouse L1975NW) to a 1440 by 900 resolution. at the moment, the maximum resolution that I am receiving is 1024 by 768 at 60 Hertz. This monitor is an external hookup to my laptop (dell E1405) and I mostly use it because my laptop is mostly docked at home. I've tried various monitors, viewsonic, envision, with the same specs as this one. This monitor is said to have a 1 440 by 900 resolution, it is a 19" wide screen display etc. The laptop has integrated graphics being Mobile Intel(R) 945GM Express Chipset Family. I used to think that the laptop just couldn't send a signal for a 1440 by 900 resolution to an external monitor, but it has done so without a problem. Also, I understand that most monitors are plug and play but this one is only given me the max resolution of 1024 by 768. I've spent hours trying to fix this issue: Dell support said that there is nothing wrong with the laptop so there is nothing they could do. Westinghouse said to update the graphics driver and that there is not a problem with the monitor. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

howdy chavodel08,
Have you tried upping the resolution to say 72 hz? This may help.. Did it come with a disc? Also did you try doing it directly from the monior yet?

Re: Graphics not putting out 1440 by 900 for external monitor.
The problem is that I can't set it beyond 60 Hertz. I only have that option. The monitor will not let me adjust the resolution, since there is no option for it. Unfortunately the monitor did not come with a disc because the manufacturer said it was supposed to be plug and play. Thanks for your reply.

Re: Graphics not putting out 1440 by 900 for external monitor.
This is a laptop with a GMA 950 (max res of 1920 x 1200 I believe). You will want to uncheck the box labeled "Hide Modes this Monitor Cannot Display".
Display Properties > Settings tab > Advanced > Monitor tab Then you will have more resolutions. You usually can't select a refresh rate higher than 60 Hz on laptops. Laptop screens can't handle higher refresh rates.
