7600gt vs 7900gs
hey all
i have had my xfx geforce 7600gt for a while now, but lately i been lookin to upgrade (i dont want a dx10 card) and found that the 7900gs is verrrry affordable. now my question is, is the 7900gs that much better than the 7600gt, i get pretty decent framerates on oblivion and fear with everything maxed out, but more FPS cant hurt, so it is work the extra $80 (australian) my video card currently is an XFX 7600GT XXX Edition (650Mhz - 1.6Ghz) thank you in advance |

Re: 7600gt vs 7900gs
If it were me, I'd rather have the GT instead of GS as GS models are actually lower-end.

Re: 7600gt vs 7900gs
Take a look at the X1950Pro and X1950XT video cards. If you can afford these, they will be better than a 7900GS.

Re: 7600gt vs 7900gs
thank you for your replies, i just assumed that with the 20 pixel pipelines on the 7900gs i would get better performance than my 7600 right now, although it does have lower clock speeds, and i beleive the 128 bit bus on the 7600gt really limits it when playing with high AA and AF. Unfortunately the x1950pro costs atlease $100 more then the 7900gs, therefore i am tryin to avoid them, but with the price of the 7900gs i just assumed they would give me better performance. :)

Re: 7600gt vs 7900gs
At Newegg, the X1950 Pro is only $10 more than an eVGA 7900GS.

Re: 7600gt vs 7900gs
7900GS is only a little behind the 7900GT, and if you overclock it, it will be a great performer. I would try for 500/1500 MHz, and if you can get past that, it is even better. The 7900GS is a great overclocker, so it is probably worth it.

well i decided to take "TheMatt"s recommendation and whlie at it purchase a better card, however while i was looking at the radeon x1950pro i saw that the albatron 7950gt is exacty the same price. On tomshardware the 7950gt came out on top in most games but the 1950pro looks very nice and intriguing. Although im not very familiar with ati cards, why is it stated that the x1950pro only has 12 pixel pipelines?

Re: 7600gt vs 7900gs
im not really looking for a direct x 10 card at the moment as i beleive it will be of no use to me, im going to wait for a few more dx10 cards to be released before even considering it, but thank you for your reply and as i stated before i live in australia, therefore i cant purchase from newegg

Re: 7600gt vs 7900gs
The 7950GT will be a better choice than the X1950 Pro.
The X1900/X1950 series of cards have less pipelines, but more vertex and pixel shaders.

Re: 7600gt vs 7900gs
You say you don't want a DX10 card.. Why not? the 8600 and 8300 are launching next month, and would be in your price range. The performance they offer should be fairly good, and around the 150 mark (USD) too..
That's just my honest opinion..I'll probably do the same thing :) and a 7600GT will perform almost exactly as a 7900GS. Last edited by -d-; 03-31-2007 at 11:15 AM. |
