Well, I've seen reviews before I bought this card. People say they get 40 fps in bf2 (w/ low setting 800x600) so I thought to myself this is pretty decent card and I bought one. After installing I tested my card but only got 6 fps!! I was angry so I used old drivers 84.21.. OMG IT WORKED I'm getting up to the playable "20s" range and I played for a while. Over time, it goes down to 12 fps and which is basically unplayable! What's the deal here?

I also tried CS:S and the stress test. It says by average was 33 fps but when I join servers, I'm getting like 10 fps.. Really ticking me off -.-


I overclocked it to 400/600 (STABLE) and still no luck, only a 3 fps increase. The temperature is only 40°C (~100°F)when I'm playing and I'm sure this isn't a heat issue... OK so here's the thing that REALLY Ticks the hell outta me.. I also have a laptop which has a nvidia 6150GO and the fps is just spectacular! 40-50s. Why isn't my 6200 better than my 6150 GO (note that there's a GO there)

Can someone please tell me what's the problem here? I'm really desperate for solutions... And btw I'm new here so I'm a noob ;]

1 GB of RAM (512×2)
Windows XP SP2
VGA: nVidia 6200 (Just plain old 6200, nothing else)

My laptop's specs:
AMD 64x
1GB RAM
Windows MCE 2003
VGA: nVidia 6150 GO

Hi,

Were the temperatures you measured of the GPU or the CPU? If those were the CPU temperatures, download RivaTuner and post the GPU temperatures. Also, I suggest you take a can of compressed air and dust out your case around your motherboard and video card if it is dusty.

Also, check your CPU usage when your computer is idle and see if it is spiking. If it is, click the % column in the process tab to sort by CPU usage and see what process is eating up the CPU usage.

Yep, confirmed GPU. Checked by right clicking desktop > Properties, Settings Tab, Advanced Tab, Nvidia 6200 tab, Temperature Settings.


An update, it was probably around 40-50s range...

Does this computer have an integrated card you can try? Do you have another card, or can you try this card in another computer?

What is the CPU usage when the computer is idle? See my previous post.

Also, please post the specs of your PSU. Look on the side and post the brand, wattage, and the amps on the +12v rail.

480w, cpu usage when idle is just 1~8%, hopping around... I think I found out why it gives me poor fps... It's when my temp goes above 40° C. Is there a way for it to not "slow down" when it gets above 40? I mean 40 is a really low temperature... If it slowed down around 70 degrees C, it would be reasonable why I'm getting poor fps. But 40? Come on!

Where does it say it slows down when it gets above that temp? It shouldn't, since 70 degrees is actually the temp that the card shouldn't go above.

It doesn't say anywhere but if I check the temperature while playing a game, it reads 40 and once it pasts this (example 40.1 degrees) the card starts to run slower than usual, thus giving me icky fps. :[ Not fun. 70 degrees is a safe temperature since my laptop usually idles around there (its new so no dust :P). All my friend's desktop's usually get their cards around 70 at max load... 70 is pretty safe to me in my opinion but I know it shouldn't go over 76°C... 40 is almost half of 76 and it's a pretty harmless temp...

Download RivaTuner from my sig and see if that has an option to control clock throttling of the card.

I have RiverTuner already installed (v2.0 final). I used it to overclock my video card. Where can I find 'Control Clock Throttling'? Thanks.

Try reinstalling the 84 drivers again and see if it fixes it.

The CoolBits registry mods will also help. There you can manually set the slowdown threshold for the card.

Can you guys show me how to tweak the temperature settings?


My current idea is to get a fan for my video card since it doesn't come with one, only a heatsink..

Go into the nVidia configuration panel and it should be in one of the sections there. I'm not sure which section as I have never used CoolBits.

Are you sure you are not suffering network lag, instead of the gpu? I had this card, and it is not strong really. Are you playing online, what is your ping when you do?

Yeah, I'm sure of it... So would it be OK for me to buy a fan and attach it to the card to prevent the 'heat protection' to kick in?

yes, that shouldn't be a network lag then. A fan would be fine. A bit difficult to attactch, but i am sure you will work it out. It cant hurt put it that way. However, i think you could probably upgrade to get the best results?

What are your complete specs?
