My System

Just installed x1950 pro. Weird boot up behavior.[resolved]

I just got my X1950 pro in the mail today, woohoo! Woohoo is right, but of course something has to go wrong.

At first it wouldn't boot up at all. I would just get a black screen. I figured I'd let it sit there for a bit and see what happenes. 3-5mins later, it finally starts booting up. What would cause this? Do I need a new power supply to power this thing or something? It says 450W, and mine is 480, but that's pretty close to "recommended" specs. Usually it's always better to have more than what the box recommends from what I know(as far as games go anyway).

My specs are:
ABIT Fatal1ty AN8 SLi
- AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego
- Radeon X1950 Pro XL PCI-E
- A-Top Gladiator Case
- Neo Power 480W
- 2 OCZ 1gig sticks
- Thermalright XP-90 Heatsink
- Dell 2005FPW Widescreen

Re: Just installed x1950 pro. Weird boot up behavior.

Thanks for the reply. I think I put everything accurately in there, and I'm getting about 379watts.

379 times (30%) = 113.7

379 + 113.7 = 492.7.

I guess I need a new power supply eh? heh

I just got done playing some Oblivion, and about 10mins into playing, the game suddenly started going very choppy at about 1 frame every 5 seconds or so. I guess that is a result of not having enough power? I could tab out easily enough to close it out, so it wasn't locking up.

Re: Just installed x1950 pro. Weird boot up behavior.

Thanks for the help, dai. I'm going to go with the Antec True Power TRIO 650 Watt Power Supply. I can pick it up at work so I won't have to wait for shipping.

Hopefully this will solve my problem. :)

I'm going to miss the cable management my Neo Power 480 has though, but oh well hehe.

Hi Kevin,

That is a good quality PSU that you chose and should correct the problem. BTW, getting a bunch of twist ties that you use to tie produce bags close is a good idea for cable management. I have always found them as an inexpensive and simple solution.

Re: Just installed x1950 pro. Weird boot up behavior.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know that my computer booted up with no problems. This new power supply is great, and using these wire ties I got at work for $1 helped with the wire cluttering.
