Video card prob?
Hi, everybody. -Is that what Dr. Nick says ?
I have switched from a 19" Trinitron to a 21" Trinitron and installed the appropriate driver. It's display of text at POST and the Pre- OS legend in Windows looks fine, but when Windows or Linux is loaded there is multiple ghosts to the right of texts and icons etc... Any ideas what the solution might be? |

Re: Video card prob?
well since it looks good pre os, obvious 60hz is more then supported but the question is what are the specs of the old monitor vs the new one? if the new one supports different or lower refresh rates, you will have a problem and need to use VGA mode. There are several possibilies. Lets start with each monitor model and vendor. in addition how much memory do you have on your video card?

Re: Video card prob?
I don't wanna go too far because I'd like the opinion of another tech here. But with only 32megs on video ram with an onboard SIS adapter, how much resolution and refresh rate power does he have to play with?
I can't imagine getting 1600x1200 @ 85hz and still having any graphic memory left for windows though since it's onboard, maybe it's shared memory? Quote:

Re: Video card prob?
this might sound lame because you already could have tried it, but you should have some manual horizontal and vertical controls... some monitors have alot of play room with them. have you tried shifting all the way to the other side or vice versa? also some video cards have software built into their control panel to do the same in case of a monitor issue... Has this monitor you are having an issue with been tested sucessfully with another PC?
Again these may be obvious questions that I would think you would have done before contacting us, but I did want to ask. Have you played at all with device manager to know if you have any yellow arrows? If you haven't, if you could post a system report for me that could tell me a few things. I can compare driver versions to chipset drivers vs manufacter/oem drivers and stock drivers. At the bottom of this post look for the link about posting your system info. Everest is your best. I like the devices tab myself. But thats what most people around here use to inventory a users machine so we don't have to ask so many questions over and over... we'll have all the technical info we need right in front of our faces. Thanks for understanding. But if you haven't tried any of my so called obvious choices, give it a go. I only can relate one incident to this but it was a drastic change from like a 17 to a 21 or the other way around.
