Ati X1650 Shappire 256MB AGP

What I want to know is, what is the recommended GPU temperature for this card?

When idle my card's GPU is about 56* C (please see attached picture).

When playing games my graphics card gets extremely hot and I lose permormance on my graphics card due to this.

Can someone please tell me how I can go about to properly cool down my graphics card so that I can get better performance.

Hi,
Are you overclocking the card? If so - set it back to default values. Have you checked the fan/heatsink for dust?

Re: Ati X1650 Shappire 256MB AGP

That's about what my X1300 Pro clocks at when it's idle, as well. I don't know about your X1650, but my 1300 has a highly inadequate fan to cool it down. Using ATi Tool to manually select custom fan speeds (give it a try, works beautifully to keep my X1900XTX, which has a great stock fan, down around 50-55C under heavy loads, and mid 40's when idle) doesn't help the temperature much. I can't get the 1300 below 54C when idle with 100% fan speed.

Re: Ati X1650 Shappire 256MB AGP

To eneles : No I am not overlocking my GPU as u can see from the pic that I attached. My settings are all standard.

To alabamaman : I tried the ATi tool, but it doesnt seem to work, I still get the same temp. Must be something with these ATi cards...

Lemme rather ask the question, and I would like the answer to be backed up by factual evidence. (maybe include a link or something)

Question : What is the maximum temp that the GPU can handle (for example while playing games) without getting damaged?

And at what temp will the GPU actually burn out?

If possible also tell me what temps these GPU's were built to run at, in other words what their actuall temps should be when idle and when under heavy load?

Don't worry, your PC will reboot itself before it does harm to your card. If you're looking for better performance either lower in game settings, anti aliasing, anisotropic filtering, or try 16-bit.

Hi,

Actually, graphics cards don't often reboot when overheating like processors do. They will start artifacting and displaying random pixels and patterns. I would look at cooling options if you see the GPU temp go above 70 degrees. Make sure you monitor the temps while gaming.

Something like this is a good, inexpensive cooling solution.

How many case fans do you have, and where are they? It is important to have a front intake fan as well as a rear exhaust fan. Take a look at parts II & III of this article: http://www.techsupportforum.com/arti...e-cooling.html

Re: Ati X1650 Shappire 256MB AGP

I have a air intake fan at the back just below my power supply and an air outlet fan at the top of my case.

There is no hole in the front of my PC case to put in a fan, so wot do I do, put in a fan inside the box (in the front) anyways?

Put in the PCI slot fan I posted a link to above in right below your video card.

Does your case have any vents in the front?

Exclamation Re: Ati X1650 Shappire 256MB AGP

Sorry for bringing this old thread up, but I was searching my Grahpics Card max temp, and it brought me to this post. I use an ATI 1300 series, and from what I read, the fan is really inadequate.

How can I manually adjust the fan speed? I'm a noob at this so please walk me thorugh what I need to do. The restarts weren't being caused by my powersupply, because after i upgraded they still happen.

I have Everest and Speed Fan downloaded. Please walk me thorugh how I change teh speeds, and if I need to get a new program let me know.

Thanks a lot,

Sanjay
