Re: Widescreen or 4:3 ??

Personaly i think that widescreen is better for shooting games as you can see more of what is around you, you would adjust the settings for this in the games options section.

Re: Widescreen or 4:3 ??

Seems the industry is going WS but that doesn't mean 4:3 resolutions are not still being actively supported. I would say there are advantages and disadvantages. I can't get used to my new 22" WS as I had a 19" 4:3 for 3 or 4 years. I am probably going back to the 4:3 but on the laptop, the 15.4 WS is great.

Re: Widescreen or 4:3 ??

I'm used to using dual monitors so 4:3 is usually what I recommend.

They don't have the settings configured correctly.

CJ is right. Many of the monitors are hooked up to computers that are hooked up to widescreen and fullscreen monitors, so they use 4:3.

I like widescreen because I watch a lot of movies, and when running games on my wimpy IGP, it allows better performance than on a 1280 x 1024 monitor.

Most of my game do support the 1280 x 800 resolution as well as other widescreen resolutions, so you should be OK for the most part.

Re: Widescreen or 4:3 ??

The reason they look stretched in the stores is the numbnuts who configure the machine or they are hooked to a massive outpost that feeds all the monitors. The only way you will get maximum performance and clarity out of a LCD monitor is to verify it's Native Resolution and set your video card to that through windows.

There is no point in having a 22" running at 1024x768 stretched to all ****
The native Resolution on a 22" is normally 1680x1050, you aren't even gaining any real estate if you set your resolution lower than that. You are simply expanding that you already have and making it seem like you are zooming in.

So to answer your question, that is why many stores have monitors that look that way. The only way to really see what you are buying is to make sure the monitor is connected directly to the demo pc and get on the machine and set the resolution manually... on a 19" it is 1400x900.

You can do 75hz on most 1400x900 configurations but not on 1680x1050. Though I've seen a gateway 24" running 1680x1050 @ 75hz but I don't think that is the native resolution.

Re: Widescreen or 4:3 ??

Scott is right, generally, 24" monitors are WUXGA (1920 x 1200).

Re: Widescreen or 4:3 ??

Hey, anyone seen one of these before? I never thought about doing the dual monitor thing before. Well if did, I'd have to hang the LCD TV on the wall and that's a big boy.

I saw this for the first time and thought it was totally cool. Walmart has one for sale on their site.

Re: Widescreen or 4:3 ??

Yes, those are pretty nice. Very useful for increased productivity at TSF.

Sometimes I will hook up a second monitor to my laptop and run dual monitors. Its nice being able to look at two web pages at the same time rather than switching tabs constantly.
