RESOLVED ATI 850XT PE Mod

Hi,

I am planning to mod my 850XT as I find their stock fan considerably loud. I have been looking into the Zalman VGA coolers and I do not know which one I should get. I am not on a budget constraint but I want to know which one will give me the less sound and more airflow.

I am interested in http://www.zalman.co.kr/eng/product/...&pr_name=VF900 but wish to know the difference besides the fan sizes. Also, if you have any other opinions on say another brand that will give me the same results as the Zalmans, I am happy to listen to your thoughts.

Thanks

Re: ATI 850XT PE Mod

Hi,

Zalman makes very good VGA coolers. One thing I would do is choose a larger fan and have it on a lower speed so it is not as loud. Just make sure there is room in your case for it. Also, it will work best if you have a front intake fan at the bottom front of your case.

Re: ATI 850XT PE Mod

Can it be plugged straight onto the video card or do I have to connect it via 3 pin molex / fanmate?

Re: ATI 850XT PE Mod

You plug it into the 3-pin connector on the motherboard or into a Fanmate fan controller. The controller is then plugged into the motherboard and put outside the case.

Re: ATI 850XT PE Mod

Thanks!

Just bought it with the heatsinks for the ram and noticed it uses some kind of adhesive. In due time I am assuming it will lose its stickyness due to the dry cold/hot air circulating in my case causing it to fall. Is there anything I can do to keep it from falling in the future?

Re: ATI 850XT PE Mod

The adhesive shouldn't fall off the RAM even after a long period of time as long as you don't remove the heatsink after installing it.

Thanks! What are some programs I can use to view my GPU temperature? Speedfan hasn't said anything about it. I did notice my colors looked abit funky and they are not as sharp as they are but I am assuming that I have been on my friends crap Phillips monitor on VGA for about 5 hours and came home installed the fan booted up to realize a weird color distortion. Theres no tints or weird stripes...I don't know.

Re: ATI 850XT PE Mod

Download ATI Tray Tools from my sig for overclocking and temperature monitoring tools. The Catalyst Control Center also has temperature monitoring abilities.

Hey thanks! That helped alot. Is there one that I can use to monitor the CPU temperature and have the temperature display on my taskbar? The ATI one only does Motherboard and Video Card GPU. Speedfan shows the Motherboard by default and I don't know where to change that.

Re: ATI 850XT PE Mod

Does SpeedFan display the CPU temp? You can always try SensorsView or Motherboard Monitor.

Re: ATI 850XT PE Mod

You're welcome. BTW, that is trial software, but it is well worth the small price. If you don't want to pay, you might want to try out MotherboardMonitor, which is free, but doesn't always work.
