Graphicsr card issues

Now this may be closely tied to a recent post:
ATI Radeon X1650 PRO AGP512MB, graphic corruptions.

However i had a quick scroll through and found it hard to understand, so im going to introduce my problem.

Current system:
*AMD Athlon(tm) 64 Processor 3400+, MMX, 3DNow, ~2.4GHz
*1024MB RAM
*Windows XP Home Edition (5.1, Build 2600) Service Pack 2 (2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.061219-0316)
*RADEON X700 AGP
*600W power supply
*80gb Hard drive(kinda getting obsolete)

Anyways, i brought a new Graphics card, the:
HIS ATI RADEON X1650pro IceQ Turbo edition
When i start the computer up it loads ok and then starts to get sketchy and seem unstable such as peridoic and perm lockups(untill restart) as the login-to-user screen. If i get past that i attempt to update the driver and whatnot. Usually minutes later the screen will flick off and on and then finally or perhaps immidately before those symptoms present me with an error thats looks like this:
" OUT OF RANGE "
"98.7kHz/188Hz"
Or the computer will just lock up.
I've read elsewhere to change my Hertz to 60 and change resolution down on the card but that doesn't help. I have fully updated the cards drivers and that didn't work. I sent the card back and got a new one and that didn't work.

I can only assume my PC does'nt like this card.
One thing that may cause it, im not sure though, is that when i removed the card i noticed it was quite warm / hot. Not sure if the card shut itself down or reset due to this and that is what is causing the problems. I read elsewhere that this card did have heating problems but this is shortly after startup and without running any programs.

Be much appreciated if someone can help me solve this issue.
Also keep in mind that i got the IceQ edition which i has the big Fan attachment to it, but im not sure if thats doing its job.

Anyways, thanks.

Re: Graphicsr card issues

Hi,

Reset the CMOS and restart the PC. If the problem continues you may want to try boot in safe mode and see if the drivers are at issue. You could also download Sensorview Pro and measure the heat of the GPU, let us know the results if you are able to get that far.

Nick.

Re: Graphicsr card issues

Hi, thanks for the response.
I know a tiny bit about computer parts but even less about the motherboard area.
When you mentioned resetting the CMOS would that just be removing the small battery and putting it back in?
I dont have a floppy drive(well i do but i removed it because it never seemed to work and i have 2 cd drives) and i dont have any original windows cd's if they're needed.
Im kind of clueless on what to do.
Be great to learn this method and thanks for your fast reply.

Re: Graphicsr card issues

Testing:
This is what i did:
1. Turned computer off and unplugged everything.
2. Took Motherboard battery out and put it back in.
3. Removed my X700 graphics card
4. Put in my X1650 graphics card
5. Turned computer on.

Im not sure if i did it correctly but it acknowledged some sort of BIOS reset... or something like that (my time is now incorrect). The computer got to the windows loading screen part, froze , i restarted and it then got to the desktop.
I fiddled for abit, ran the program for cpu temp and stuff (i will post an image link below) and then went to upload it to imageshack and when i uploaded it and scrolled the computer froze and then restarted itself a minute or so later.
I then retried, i got to posting on this site my findings when the screen went all green with small distorted colours and then came up with an "out of range" error again, then the screen went blank.

Thats the test with my X1650 installed. with the X700 it is currently sitting on 48 degree's(CPU temp) and not changing.

I also cant do much in safe mode, it wont let me install any drivers, wont let me view hertz or do much else. I have got to the stage of installing the driver with the X1650 in but it still dies.

Anyways, ill check back soon - thanks again for the help
