Thumbs Down The very most weirdest video problem ever

HI!!!

This case is driving me insane so here it is:

I have this IBM Netvista 8306-PEU Desktop computer (P4 with 512mb ram upgraded). Its equiped with an AGP Geforce FX5200 128mb card. I want to install an AGP 8.0X 512MB Geforce 6600oc.

You probably already guessed that its not working. But before posting I decided to try a few things:

1- I upgraded the PSU unit to a 450Watts.
2- I flashed the bios to the latest version.
3- I upgraded the chipset to the latest version
4- I took the FX5200 out and removed the drivers and tried with the onboard video (worked).
5- Disabled the multisampling.
6- Went into the Bios and tried setting video to auto, agp, pci, onboard, nothing helps.
7- Tried a weeker AGP card. (didnt worked)
8- Tried an FX 5500 PCI card. (didnt worked)

So basically now what I can see is that there is no way I can put any other video card except the FX5500 AGP and the onboard. But this is physically impossible?

By not working I mean I get no video signal (Yes I did plug the monitor into the video card slot, not the onboard). So my monitor light is orange and stays orange. Nothing comes out. No beeps. No crash. But it doesnt seem to boot neither. The HDDs and CPU are running but it doesnt seem to go any further.

My questions is: HEEELP!!!

thanks.

Re: The very most weirdest video problem ever

sorry forgot to mention. Yes and it doesnt change anything. I could add that sometimes when I boot the Power LED doesnt even turn on. Like the machine is turned on and is running but te LED doesnt open. But some other times the LED lights works but the image doesnt work.

In anycase I get no image :(

the aux is the 12V square plug right? It is plugged.

Here are some pictures of the mobo taken with a nice Kodak camera... (do not buy kodak). Maybe you can see something weird.

Re: The very most weirdest video problem ever

What are the specs on your video card? I can't seem to find 512mb GeForce 6600 agp card. What's the name brand?
Did you try resetting your CMOS via the jumper or by removing the battery?

Re: The very most weirdest video problem ever

That card requires a power connection of its own and it doesn't appear to plugged in on the pics you posted above. It accepts a 4 pin molex connector just like your HD and Cdrom uses.

By installing the new card and then clearing the CMOS the board might resolve whatever conflict that it's having with new card.
Just a shot in the dark though. It's worked for me in the past when having post problems after hardware upgrades.

Re: The very most weirdest video problem ever

Been going through the Lenova/Ibm website and it's pretty much worthless.
Are you able to test the card in another system to verifiy it's not DOA?

Re: The very most weirdest video problem ever

looking at the pictures i can see that the m/b is not installed correctly
you have a screw missing from one of the fixing holes and the m/b is not aligning up with the hole
does your backing plate use standoffs or is it one of those dimpled plates
if it uses standoffs you must have one for each hole in the m/b and they must line up and no extras and they must have a screw in as they are a required earthing point for the m/b
