RESOLVED ATI 9800 + Samsung 931bw = no display using DVI cable???
Hi, I'm new here and this is the first time I'm posting. I just upgraded my monitor model Samsung SyncMaster 931BW and it has a standard analog input and a DVI-D Digital input with max resolution 1440 x 900. My video card is ATI All In Wonder 9800 series which has a DVI-I input and DVI to AGP adapter. If I connect the monitor using the standard analog cable along with the adapter everything is ok. However, when I connect the DVI-D Dual Link cable from the monitor straight to the video card then no picture, just like there's no signal send to the monitor. I even install the driver that came with the monitor but still nothing. Monitor has DVI-D input and ATI 9800 has DVI-I output, is this the reason why? Anything I can do or my only option is to settle with the analog cable???? Please help.

are you using the dvi cable that came with the monitor
do you get anything in safe mode if you do go into the monitor menu and check it has detected digital input, they usually auto detect the signal is from digital or annalouge

Check that your refresh rate is at 60 Hz and then try the DVI.

The DVI-D cable doesn't come with the monitor, strange I know. I bought the cable separately. The monitor auto detect the signal. When analog cable is conncected, it will detect. But will not detect any signal when DVI cable is conncected. It's auto switching from Analog to Digital a couple time then goes on stand by. This is what the monitor display when I check the refresh rate. What I should do?? Video Card output DVI-I and monitor is DVI-D, are they even compatible???

A DVI-I cable won't fit in a DVI-D input. Try the monitor's DVI input on another device with a DVI output.

Problem Solve
Connect the DVI-D cable when the computer is power off. Turn the computer back on and get Video. I can not tell if there is any different on picture quality. Looks the same to me. Thanks everyone.

You're welcome. BTW, you really won't see a difference alone, but if you put a monitor conected via VGA and the same monitor with the same image connected via DVI next to eachother, you will notice a difference. It is the same with S-video and composite video.
