RESOLVED Problems with ATI X550
hello everyone, im new to the forums, but i have a problem i have to ask about.
been searching over the net for answers but havent forund any useable or logical answer to my question currently i have a Sapphire PCIe ATI X550 card with an Intel D975XBX mobo and Pentium D 820 CPU. I installed windows XP pro, installed all windows fixes/hotfixes, installed the latest Catalyst, Intel Chip Drivers (never used Omega drivers). the problem is, that the resolution resets back to 1024x768 every time restart the computer, ONLY when the Catalyst drivers are installed. When i uninstall the catalyst drivers, the resolution settings work ok. Another problem is with playing movies: some .wmv format movies color are messed up (white goes green, black goes orange, blue goes red). Currently using K-Lite mega Codec pack, but uninstalled it to give it a try and used the built-in Windows Media Player, but with the same effect. Dunno if it matters, but the VGA card is installed to the rightmost (or the topmost) PCIe slot, and Everest tells me that the nr. 2 pcie slot is occupied. also note that the PC is built about 1 week ago, VGA card has no fan (just passive cooling) - so everything is 99.9% dust free; also note that there is a power connector on the motherboard, similar to the HDD/CR-rom power connector, but i havent plugged anything into it, coz ive read that i need to plug it only when using high-energy consuming card. thank you for your patience |

Hi,
Have you installed the latest catalyst drivers for your card? http://www.techsupportforum.com/hard...i-drivers.html Also, try the videos in another media player and on another computer.

i have already done everything i would think is logic (im not a noob to HW/SW stuff, been putting together comps for years now), yes, installed the latest catalyst driver (even tried removing the official ati driver and putting on the Sapphire driver that came on the CD with the card), i just copied the movies from my old computer (4 year old Athlon XP, everything worked OK there), the movies ran perfectly on that computer with the same version of K-Lite and same version of Media Player classic
i have looked around the net, and saw people are having this problem with nVidia cards too, mostly on new computers, and i saw some totally illogical solution, like reinstall driver, remove-put back card to its slot etc... i also belive this problem can be related to dual-core processors |

PROBLEM SOLVED!
this is what i did: 1. Downloaded latest Driver Cleaner Pro (ver. 1.5) 2. Booted into safe mode then cleaned ALL Ati related drivers. (NOTE: after this i booted into windows with its default drivers and the movies ran perfectly, so the problem was with my drivers, not the card) 3. Downloaded and installed LATEST OMEGA Radeon drivers Installed Tray Tools too. This solved my problem when resolution was reset to 1024x768 every time i restarted the pc 4. started Tray Tools -> then right click on it -> Tweaks -> Standard Tweaks -> System -> then UNCHECK the WMA Acceleration. this solved the movies-are-messed-up problem. |
