Computer display screwed up

Hey
I'm on Windows 2000, and have ATI 9800. So a couple of days ago, suddenly, my computer display got screwed up for no reason. I see lines all over the screen, but those line don't stay, I mean, they come and go, it's not consistent. This is pretty weird because I've been using this graphic card for a few years, and, I do have the latest graphic card update, I believe. Can't seem to solve it.

Here's a screenshot of what my desktop looks like these days: http://img165.imageshack.us/img165/9314/***iszzwronghm5.jpg

Let's hope someone can help me, thanks!!

My System

Hi, I've had similar problems, but only temporary. In my case, it would happen when waking up from standby, only way I could stop it was to disable standby. It has also happened from a reboot but also would go away, for the most part my problems have stopped since I put on an arctic cooling silencer. It could also be heat, how is your cooling fan working?

When did the problem start?

I'm usually rebooting my computer every day, and as I have that problem for more than a week already, that doesn't solve the problem.
My cooling fan is doing great as usual.
When the problem started? Well, I don't exactly know anymore, but I could say that it pretty much happened without having done anything special.

Also, can't play games anymore, well, I can, but can't see a darn thing, it's a total mess. (see for yourself: http://img470.imageshack.us/img470/3884/gamedisiplayyy0.png)

Ok, I'm back with some pics.
So I was gonna do what you said, when I saw this thing that seems to be broken off. As far as I know, that's my graphic card there, I assume that's the problem...

Here are the pics:

I'm not really good at hardware at all, so would be nice if someone could tell me what should be done to repair that. I think I'll have to buy some hardware component? Right?
