Hi all, I just bought an ATI Radeon x1950 Pro 512 MB graphics card for my PC, but I didn't know about AGP and PCI etc. This graphics card is PCI-E and I think you cannot run it on anything else. MY question is - how do I confirm what I have, and if I don't have PCI-E - what can I do?
Thanks, Beacon |

You need to have a PCI-E slot on your motherboard to run a PCI-E card.
http://www.directron.com/expressguide.html has a some pictured of PCI, AGP and PCI-E cards. You should be able to look in your PC and tell what kind of card you have now and what you can upgrade to. How old is your PC? That may be an easier way to tell. PCI-E is relatively new compared to AGP. If your system is a few years old, I would guess you have an AGP slot not a PCI-E. |

Please don't use that kind of language on the forum. It doesn't serve any purpose, and is not appropriate.
Since it is not compatible, return it. Get something like a 7800GS. Look at the overclocked versions for more performance. XFX, BFG, and eVGA have some good ones.

Where did you buy it from? You should just be able to exchange it for something else. Usually they don't question you unless it is damaged.

This page gives an e-mail address and a phone number for their customer service. Just say you ordered the wrong product and you want to exchange it for another. I have done this many times with different websites and have had no major problems with returns in terms of the site not offering to exchange items.

AGP will always be more expensive and limited unfortunatley. The performance won't actually be that much worse though. If it is out of your budget, look at this:

Well I found the AGP version of the card you ordered. It was on another site called misco.co.uk for 160£ including VAT. They are reputable, as they are the UK version of TigerDirect, which is popular in the US. Just return the other card.

Well...AGP isn't really any SLOWER than PCI-E. It's just...it's got a higher bandwith. You have to throw your card into over-drive to really tell the difference between AGP and PCIE
