"MSI RADEON X700PRO (128 MB)" vs "Asus ATI X1600PRO 512MB"
I´m in desperate need of a new graphic card. But because I only have a 350W PSU I don´t have much to choose from.
Was thinking of buying an ATI x1600. In the closest computer store they have Asus - with 256 Mb and 512 Mb - and the guy there suggested the one with 512 Mb. Also he said that ATI is more "reliable" than Nvidia. I was wondering if I will get a decent improvement with this change? Or if I should go for something else. A new PSU and all that stuff will have to wait until I get a whole new computer. Any advices are welcome! |

thats not true it depends from card to card and usually is a personal opinion.
to get a massive performance jump from the x700 id go with atleast a 7600GTS from Evga. i have the x1600pro and it does the job nicely but i wouldnt buy one (got it as a present) save up for a new psu and a dx10 video card. unless you really really need the graphics performance (i agree you can never have enough) but u must realize the x1600 isnt the greatest or the latest and all the x1k and geforce 7 series will be obsolete once Directx10 comes out for the time being id look at the 7600GTS like i said from Evga its a card for around 120$ but can only be found online unless your computer store can order it. the x1600 is gooed enough for gaming and paired with my pentium D 940 it can play almost any game on high graphics settings. overall if you upgrade to a dx10 card dont dont upgrade to the x1600 or the 7600 id suggest a full new system build based on a intel C2D

Ok... I bought a MSI NX7600GT (the only 7600 they had in store right now). Somehow I trust you more than the one in the store :). It was a bit more expensive than I counted for, but hopefully my computer will be able to survive another year with this.
Thanks! |

I am getting a little concerned that you are right, Cellus. I also bought a wireless network card and put it in.
When the computer stays on for awhile, with several programs running - I sometimes get a Blue Screen! The video card I bought had the PSU requirement 350 W in shiny red text on the package. I wouldn´t be surprised if that is going to be a problem eventually. The improvements in games with the new card is above expectations though, so I will look for a new PSU. |

That is the minimum requirement, but depending on your specs, you will probably need much more. What is your other hardware?
