Monitor Not Receiving Signal
I just bought a new computer from ibuypower.com and it shipped to me today. I took it out of the box, hooked everything up, and turned it on. The monitor would not pick up a signal and the light on it stayed orange. I checked power cables, everything was connected. I tried a different monitor, same problem. I tried a different video card, same problem. To me it looks like the card is not set as the default in the BIOS settings, but it is the only one in my computer. I've checked alot of troubleshooting guides and they all assume that the monitor receives a signal long enough for someone to get into the BIOS settings, but my monitor does not get a signal at any time, it's like it isn't even plugged in. I was planning to call their tech support tomorrow, but I hoped I could get a solution quicker on here.

I selected the 7600GS to BE the onboard video, but it is in an AGP slot. There is no other place to plug my monitor in besides directly to the card. I assumed they would have configured the BIOS to the video card before shipping it out, but maybe not. I'm on the phone with their tech support right now waiting so I'll see what they say.

Yeah I managed to find it, I'm trying the monitor again now.
Edit: Still no good. It looks like a bad motherboard or other piece of hardware to me, they are sending me some postage paid labels and stuff so I'm gonna ship it back and have them check it out. Thanks for the suggestions though. Quick question though, I'm sure this is not the cause of the problem but is a 350w psu sufficient for a GeForce 7600gs video card? After my comp gets back from them replacing the hardware, I'll see how it runs and if it's not enough I'll buy a new PSU. 350w seemed sufficient at the time, but if it isn't then I'll buy a 550-600w.
I checked out that power supply thread and I'm really liking that OCZ 600w power supply, I just have to check my motherboard when it gets back and see if it's a 20 or 24 pin. Last edited by HammerOfTheGods; 11-01-2006 at 11:27 PM. |
