Monitor shuts off if I change resolution

Hi, I just reinstalled xp pro. put on norton antivirus first then windows update and thirdly, the drivers downloaded from ati.com for my ATI x1600 pro 512mb. After this driver install I restart the computer and my monitor shuts off unless I use vga mode. I'm guessing all I have to do is uninstall the drivers in safemode and reinstall . But I was wondering if there is any possible way around it. I figured I followed the correct steps, but apparently its just not my day.

Its likely that your monitor does not support the graphics mode. My monitor has shown a 'out of range' message a few times when i've altered the graphics.

Was the driver the correct one for your card and operating system??

Well I had this card running on my monitor yesterday and for the past 2 months. So my monitor must support it. Im 100% positive it was the latest driver.

VGA mode is where I'm stuck. And a resolution of 640 x 480

Try reinstalling the driver. It looks like the driver didn't install correctly and windows is only "half" using your video card.
