My 6200 to My 6800gs/xt?

Im really not that impressed with my 2 month old 6800gs/xt?
I though it would work better than it does. Grant that there is a perfomance increase on games like age of empires 3, there was a very little perfomance increase on my favorive series, "Dawn of War". It runs really nice in the beggining, but once I start seeing more units on the field, it runs like a rather large tree.
I have overclocked it, and followed instructions for altering it in the favor of performance, but I have yet to be satisfied with the results.

Another thing that shocked me, was that my card only has 8 pixel pipelines rather than my expected 12, and it wont let me unlock the other 4 pipelines, which really ticked me off. So now instead of have a 16! pipeline card I have a frigen 8 pipeline card. The perfomance differance must be tremendous!

Is there any thing i could do to significantly or even noticiable alter this
6800gs/xt in any way that i havent yet?

Thanks, Bad_Lemon

overclocking the card will improve performance, however if you went from a 6200 to the 6800,and no real noticeable gain i feel the problem lays elsewhere.something else in your system must not be adequate to supply this card.list your system specs, and power supply specs

ATi labels their top-end cards as XT while nVidia uses XT to indicate the low-end.

If memory serves, nVidia locked the pipes on the 6800GS cards at 8 and there's no way of opening them. The 6800 NU cards can be bumped from 12 to 16 easily.

For some reason, the 6800XT cards, while a little faster than the 6800GT cards, came with only 8 pipelines rather than 12 or 16.

Use Everest to find out the specs.

RivaTuner is the BEST nVidia tuning software I've used. It'll tell you tons about your card and makes tweaking it a breeze. I used it on my 6800NU to bump it up without even OC'ing it.

Wouldnt that just be network lag?? Rather than GPU performance?

The current generation of cards uses dedicated render pipelines. A 6800GT has 16 pixel pipes and 6 vertex pipes. Pixel pipes allow more general on screen action while vertex pipes allow more actual objects. The ATi chip in the XBox 360 uses a system that allows for games to shift how the 48 available pipelines are used. In the game N3, for instance, there are times when many hundreds of characters are on the screen. In this case, the game has told the GPU to dedicate a majority of pipes to vertex processing. In a cinematic scene that needs more in the way of effects, pipes are dedicated to pixel shading. In the next generation we can expect video cards to use this same technology to really boost performance.
