Video Capture

hi guys,

recently, I've been wanting to capture video of myself to put it on the web, via youtube. But first, I would have to buy a digital camcorder. Then I would have to buy a video capture device. Then I would have to buy software for converting the digital video into an acceptable digital file.

My computer is a E machine D2685 with an 80 GB Hard Drive with about 5 other users. Would I have to buy a huge external hard drive to store video?

What brands do you guys recommend for the above for my computer?

Oh yeah. Would I have to use a PCI card slot for the video capture device, or does the hotwire of the video capture device connect to USB?

If you can tell, I've never downloaded any video onto the web before, so help would be appreciated.

why not buy a usb video camera, or one you connect via usb, then upload your video files to youtube, so you wont need space to store them as you can host them from youtube, similarly, use a free webhost company to upload your files for storage.

this means less expense for pretty much same outcome.

actually...

I also want to convert some old footage of me from video tapes as well...So does this mean I have to buy a new VCR that has a usb or hotwire connection or other things? I don't know what to buy.

I don't know if you can buy a vcr with USB or firewire connections. However, the S-VHS vcr does have s-video in and out. Of course you would still need some kind of video capture device, of which there are many. Or a new video card that has video capture capabilities such as the All In One cards.

k for the following what id recommend u do is:
get a cheap digital camcorder that takes video (~100bucks)
get a Dazzle device external USB

With the camcorder u can 1. walk around and take footage not just be tied to ur computer with a webcam 2. you can hook it up directly to ur computer so u can upload the movie.

with the Dazzle you can 1. take any other analog camcorder and connect it and convert movies onto ur PC 2. connect your TV or VCR so you can record what ever is being played on there.

This does require some amount of space and i would recommend getting a bigger harddrive then 80 Gigs preferable somewhere around 160GB external (Western Digital has some good deals)
