Pink/Green "Afterimages"...CRAZY Problem
Hey y'all, you've helped me before with other problems, so...
First of all, I'm sorry if this has been posted before, but just getting this far and reading the neccasary stuff to log in has been giving me a head ache, you'll se why in a second. Also, I can barely read what im typing to excuse the typos. Bascially, I was playing Counter-Strike Source last night, and the game froze up, and now my ENTIRE screen is always filled with pink/green afterimages, almost like they are burned in. I took a screencap, but right now my entire screen is practically pink, and I have no idea what is going on. I DID update my video driver, I believe I did so correctly, and it didnt help. I never had a problem like this before last night. HEre's what it looks like. ![]() I don't know if that gives you an accurate portrayel or not, but just know that my computer is basically un usable right now. I'll check back for responses, thanks so much for the help guys. I really have no idea what is going on. |

Ok. This is very hard to explain but I know exactly what you are talking about. Ill try to do my best to explain a possible solution.
First and foremost, when you minimize and maximize CSS very quickly, your shadows and lighting in game turn pink and green (been there and done it). So if I am correct I can relate this problem to your game. What I would first try to do is start CSS up and see if it is pink, then try to connect to a game server if possible and see if it is still pink while playing. If so, while playing try to minimize and maximize your game, that should hopefully fix it. Give that a try and please post back -Clifford-

Alright, well I think you are obviously on to something. I tried to run CSS twice and both times gave me a blue screen of death. Under technical info, if this matters, it said.

Ok, what you should do. Get your driver cd that has the drivers for your video card(should be nvidia card right?). Boot your computer up and hit F8 and go into safe mode. From there you should right click on my computer and select properties. Then, select the Hardware tab, under that you will see device manager option, select it. From there, open up the Display Adapter by clicking the little sign by it. Right click the nvidia card adapter and uninstall it. After you done that, close all programs and windows and restart your system, reinstall your driver and see what happens.

Ok ok ok. Here is another thing we will try. Uninstall your drivers from add/remove programs. From there reboot into safe mode and reinstall them. See if that will work. Thx for the info dai.

I don't know if this helps, but this morning it worked for a little bit, and I played City of Heroes...then when my Character leveled up, causing a big explosion of light, it kicked in again..now, the last time I tried to run CSS, a big green upside down image of my character levelling up appeared...this help at all?

Ahaha, what kind of graphics card do you have? Nvidia cards cannot run antialiasing and High Dynamic Range lighting at the same time. Therefore if your graphics card supports both and you have them both turned on in a game it would cause it to crash. Please list what graphics card you have and what version of direct x you have.

Ok here is what I would like you to try. Go into CSS and go to options. Go to the video tab and click the advanced button. From there turn all antialiasing off. Put your filter on Trilinear instead of anistropic or whatever it is on. Now, hit apply and join a server and see what happens.

Ok. do you have the NV tool panel? If you do it should have a little icon put in your system tray. If you dont have that, right click on your desktop and from the menu select it. Try to get into the NV tool panel and turn off antialiasing, I am pretty sure that is our problem. If that doesn't work, post back and let me know. You might also have to uninstall and reinstall CSS (pain in the rearend). But don't go doing that until you update me when you get into the NV tool panel.

If this antialiasing quick fix doesn't pan out, I'm leaning toward corrupted HD data. As Clfford suggested, you might need a reinstall of the game. Do you overclock either MB or GFX or both? Just want to make sure your HD bus is locked and not OCed.
Since you have CSS, you must have HL2 and Lost Coast. How do they play?

I think I'm gonna have to reformat or get a new graphics card... =\
It's to the point now where I can boot into Safe Mode and the screen is so garbeled that I can't read anything (not just pink and green now, a rainbow of colors), and when I boot up like normal or into last setting that worked I get to the Windows loading screen and after that instant, 1 second blue screen then system restart. Thanks for the help, guys. It's been a long frustrating day... |

Thats how my 7900 acted when it went toast. I actually had colored pixels in Dos screen. Time to RMA that card.
