Windows Wont Recognise ma card
I am running Windows XP Pro and i have a nVidia geforce FX 5500 (128mb) and it was fine untill i did a repair install of windows. Now it doesnt realise that there is a card there. I took it out and put it back and i ran the Add new Hardware wizard but still nothing. And i'm sure my card isnt broken cos my monitor is plugged into it
What can i do? |

It wont let me install them. When i try and use the CD that came with the card it says that another setup is running and when i try to install the latest ones it says it cant find any hardware to support these drivers

if you have onboard graphics i would take out the FX5500 and connect the monitor to the onboard port and boot windows. remove the drivers for the FX5500 in the add/remove icon. check the device manager and make sure that the FX5500 isn't listed under the display adapters. if it is just right click on it and uninstall. then shutdown and reinsert the FX5500 and reboot. hopefully you can reinstall from the disc then
if you do not have an onboard graphics chip, i would uninstall the FX5500 from the display adapters in the device manager. do not reboot just yet. goto the add/remove icon in the control panel and remove the display drivers for the FX5500. then reboot and see if you can set the card up properly. i normally wouldn't bother to physically remove the graphics card, but since you said you were at the add new hardware maybe you've forced xp to look for the wrong card.

The card is not in the display adapters list and i don't have onboard graphics. My computer thinks that i don't have a card installed and when i looked on a list for graphics adapters there were no nVidia ones there, just ATI and Intel.
I uninstalled the drivers a few days ago and that still didnt work. I ran DxDiag and that didnt find anything. |

Sounds like when you start the install from the CD, Windows detect is also running in the background. I would start the install & then hold down Alt key and press Tab several times to see what programs are running.
