Crash problems when graphics run

Hi,

I am having problems with anything that involves graphics. If i try running Win Media Player or any type of video or programs such as Adobe Premier pro etc or pluggin in my camera to down load photos. Then the screen flicks black (on then off) then the desktop freezes. I can move the cursor around but that is it.

Explorer etc runs fine.

Could this be a virus or is it a problem with my graphics card.

If its a virus is there a fix?

Cheers

Brett

Apply new graphics drivers. Visit the web site of the graphic adapter manufacturer.

Run dxdiag and note any errors. Post the errors back to the Foroum.

Go to the NVIDIA driver site: www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

Use the newest driver that is WHQL certified, not the Beta or non-WHQL drivers.

the same world wide to install
remove all of the old drivers drivers from add and remove
reboot tapping f8 and choose vga mode
when windows finishes booting disable a/virus
install your drivers
reboot the computer
if you still then have a problem
post your system specs including the power supply details from the label on the side of the psu

i have
windows xp home edition
version 2002
service pack 1

AMD athlon (tm)64 3200+ 512 RAM

Should i install any xp windows updates? I hve never done this as i have heard that it causes more problems than it solves.

Maybe the problem is a driver - windows conflict??

Brett

It could be a problem with the video chip on your graphics card. You seem to be doing video related graphics and such.

Hmm. Try running a video benchmarking program. If it crashes then, it could be likely thats the problem. As for the solution, I don't know of any other than a new graphics card. That is only if this is your problem though.

The FX series are aging now. You can get good agp cards in the 6 and 7 series (preferably 7) for decent prices. I wouldn't consider getting another card until we can prove 100% that your problem cannot be solved.

Ok. What version of Direct x are you using and is it installed correctly? Secondly, go to this link provided as it may help. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/191660

Hmm..your card supports 9.0c. What I would try is putting your graphics card into a different computer and trying it.

Just updated the directx and still got the problem. If it doesnt crash completely once the graphics or video has stopped running then everything goes back to normal.

I think i may need to take the pc into a repair shop?!
