geforce 6200 help
my system specs are as follows:
athlon64 3400+ @ 2.4ghz asus k8v se deluxe 1gb ram geforce 6200 512mb(ddr2) edition 350w psu I noticed that when i first bought this card it was not performing any where near as well as it should.(around 30fps in css, bfv etc). And i thought to myself this card should be performing alot better for the price i paid for it. So just recently i decided to run 3dmark03 to see what score it would get so i can compare it to others with similar specs to me. so i ran 3dmark and my score was a terrable 2540. the thing is other people with the same specs as me are getting much higher scores around 6000-7000. for example this user got a score of 7044 with very similar specs to me apart from the gf6200 they was using was only 128mb.... 3DMark Score: 7044 User: ************* Date: 2005-3-2 CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 2401 MHz GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 6200, 621 MHz / 627 MHz Display Driver: 6.6.9.3 Driver Status: WHQL - FM Approved Resolution: 1024x768 32 bit OS: Microsoft Windows XP System Memory: 1024 MB Video Memory: 128 MB im using windows xp pro sp2 with the latest directx and i have the latest nvidia drivers. i was wondering if any could shed some light on this subject, (i have a feeling its the psu but 350 is enough isnt it?) any suggestions will be appriciated. Thankyou. Dan Last edited by dahorn11; 09-01-2006 at 09:06 PM. |

If all else is in working order, all drivers are up to date and there is no spyware or related problems, i'd also point to the PSU. 350w on that kind of system is cutting it close, and could very well be starving your components. Maybe you could try borrowing one from someone and see what happens. Is there any type of speed limiting technology enabled on your processor? I always disable mine so i run at peak performance 24/7

My personal opinion on this matter is that your scores are about right. I just ran 3D Mark 03 on the following system:
Pentium D 3.4GHz Asus P5ND2-SLI 2GB DDR2-667 7300GS 256MB The system (which should perform better than a system with a 6200) scored 3520. I find it difficult to believe scores of 7000 on a system with a 6200. The fact of the matter is that the 6200 is a low-end card. It was not designed for gaming. You can buy another power supply - I agree that your system is underpowered - but I do not believe it will help much, if at all, in terms of performance.

I have a 6200 with 128mb of memory. I ran it before I got my 7900gt and I know I could average around 40fps in css and about 100 in CoDUO. I don't find that 30fps is an abnormaly low score for a low end card like that. Also, as Indoril stated, it is hard to believe a 6200 will score 7000 on 3DMark with any amount of RAM or any clock settings. Go to www.gpureview.com and you can find reviews and specs for your 6200 that should help.
