PNY FX 6200 256mb 'unlock'
Hey Guys
I have a PNY FX 6200 card (AGP) 256Mb. It runs ok, with COD2, even on DX9.0c. I have read somewhere that you can 'unlock' pipes (to make 8 pipes available). Can anyone let me know if I can damage the card by doing this, how it is done and what the effect will be? Also i am interested in overclocking it as well. My nVidia display does not have a detect optimal settings (even with coolbits), can anyone let me know how i can get optimal settings back? cheers |

To unlock pipelines, you'd have to flash the card. This can be very dangerous and you could kill your card. I'm not familiar with your card, so I don't quite know if it's possible with that one.
As far as overclocking, are you absolutely sure? Overclocking can severely shorten the life of your components and could damage them. You will have to increase your cooling on your video card if you want to overclock it, and probably the cooling in your case as well. Also if you overclock, you'll have to make absolutely sure you have an adequate power supply. You'll need to get one of the big guns like Enermax, FSP, OCZ, Silverstone, etc. As far as the nVidia drivers, what version are you using? |

I am using the latest forceware drivers available and direct x 9.0c. I would like to at least overclock to the 'optimal setting' using coolbits, but it doesn't appear on my display. ie the button isn't there. On my laptop, it has the ability to detect optimal settings, but even with coolbits, I can activate that settings. Any clues?

You can use RivaTuner to unlock pipes on a card safely and without doing anything permanent. It's a good way of testing the waters before messing with the BIOS.

actually, my card is a A4 revision and it is hard locked to 4 pipes apparently. Has anyone heard of people successfully flashing the bios and unlocking the pipes on a A4 revision PNY FX 6200??
any help would be appreciated!! |
