SLI message..

I've had this system I built for awhile now. Running Windows XP Pro with all the latest yupdates. I have a GeForce 6800 GT OC 256MB video card.

All of the sudden out of nowhere everytime I boot up my system it says my SLI being disabled. Something with slizone.com

I've never had SLI enabled. I have never received this message before.. it's only been happening for the past few days and I've not installed anything in that time except for my Spybot Search & Destroy update.

I've NVIDIA programs from my startup with MSCONFIG, also went into REGEDIT. It keeps coming back everytime I boot up and a stupid little icon for NVIDIA control panel sits next to my clock. I don't use NVIDIA control panel, never have, and never will. I setup my system initially set the refresh rate, screen size, etc. I never need settings again.

To get rid of that pop up message, go to the [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\NVIDIA Corporation\Global\MediaCenterTray] key in your Registry and set the NvCplDisableBalloonNotifications DWORD to 1 - if it doesn't exist create it.

Oh, and to get to your registry just go to Start > Run and type regedit.

I had the same issue so I just went back to the 84 series drivers. The new ones are designed to add support for the new 7950 cards and do nothing for us 6800 series owners.

Well, I had the latest version of the driver a long time ago, but the problem only just started occuring for the past few days, weird.

Anyway, that registry key got rid of the popup, YAY, but how do I get the stupid tray icon to go bye bye?! It keeps coming back. I don't want it, I hate it.

I recommend you back-date to the 84.21's as ebackhus suggested. The 91.31's are very buggy. As ebackhus said, they don't give any extra performance for older cards, so you might as well use the 84.21's, which are stable and bug-free. You can download them here:

Start > Run type msconfig. Click on the startup tab on the far right, and the uncheck the NVidia Tray thing. Then restart.
