System failed VGA test
hi there guys,
i have been away on holiday recently and my computer has been left in my dad's office where the secretary uses it for the typing of letters and so on. During my time away something has occured that now means that i get "no signal" to my monitor. also the computer shouts a message at me upon starting up. "system failed VGA test". The board i am using is an ASUS A8V-E Deluxe and the graphics card is an NVIDIA 6600GT PCI-E This computer has been working without any major problems for the best part of a year with these components and it seems that when i leave it alone things go wrong :( I have tried replacing the VGA card with a 7600GT and this had absolutely no effect. People have offered the advice that i go to the BIOS and change things around but the problem is that i cant get to the BIOS at all, nothing comes up on the screen from start to finish, i have tried pressing F8 to bring up safe mode but no effect there either. Please help me!!! |

Try clearing cmos. But remember when doing so you will lose your cmos
settings and you will have to reconfigure them. You can clr cmos by jumpers, or by removing battery for a few seconds. See if that will get you back up and running. Its the first thing I would try. Make sure all fans are spinning when you hit the pwer button...

no change
i have tried what u said about clearing the cmos and this made no change. the screen still says no signal to the screen and shouts the message "system failed vga test". i have cleaned around the motherboard and am now going to try getting a new motherboard. i am hoping that this will recify the problem but please feel free to suggest any other changes that may be cheaper :)
thankyou for the previous suggestions and hope to hear from yo soon. |

no luck
i am pretty sure that the power supply is ok as all of the fans are running and the lights and so on, i am unsure of a way of checking if this is wrong. i have also taken the fan and heatsink off of the cpu and the thermal paste seems ok to me (i couldnt re-apply because i have none left and shops r shut atm) i am almost certain now that thee is something wrong with the board itself and that is going to need changing.
If there is anything else i can try please suggest i really dont wanna pay out for a new board right now. plus all the aggro of putting it all back together. thnx for all help so far, hear from u soon i hope. |
