GeForce 6800 Ultra PROBLEMS!!!
Here is the thing, I think that this is the problem, I am not quite sure yet. I was almost CERTAIN that it was my PSU. When I go into games like CS:S, F.E.A.R., or Battlefield 2, my game will be skipping and freezing all over the place and about 5 minutes into playing, my computer restarts. In CS:S, the models start to distort first then it restarts. I just bought a new PSU - Ultra X-Connect - 500 Watt, Dual +12 rails, both 18 A. I can run things like CS 1.6, Mu Online (www.muonline.com) and sometimes Battlefield Vietnam. I just spent a good bit of money on this problem, but is it the graphics card? Or possibly the motherboard? This is a fairly cheap motherboard. Gigabyte, nF4, PCI-E, was 100 bucks almost a year ago. I had one problem with it before, just a POST problem, but other than that none. What do I do guys?
Specs: AMD Athalon 64 3500+ @ 2.33 ghz 1024 Kingston DDR400 PC3200 GeForce 6800 Ultra Soundblaster Audigy SE (2)300 GB Seagate Baracudda More than enough cooling, system idles around 68 F.

What are your temps at while gaming?
Have you tried omega drivers? I noticed a huge increase in overall stability after switching from my Acer OEM radeon drivers to those.

Okay, my house has one and it runs BF2 no problems.
Try playing it with the lowest settings, then see if it does the same thing. BTW, i have had some trouble with BF2 and Steam, i have to install BF2 Before Steam otherwise i get clipping gfx and but it doesnt reboot. Also, which BF2 update are you using? 1.3 is the latest and there have been a few problems with it from what i have seen on their forums. Are you using high settings on these games for shadeing? Or it could OpenGL, i've had problems in the past with it *grrrrrrr* One last thing, 68 degrees seems a little hot if you ask me. Last edited by Myth-UK; 08-26-2006 at 02:59 AM. |

If older games and low settings allow you to play for a bit longer, then it sounds to me like an overheating or underpowerd graphics card. You mentioned temps, but have you checked your voltages? Even a new power supply could be faulty, so it could still be PSU.
Also, try opening the side of the case, and blowing a desk fan directly into the case (I'd try pointing it towards the GPU as well, if you can). Then see if you can play any longer. |

check
check the heat sink on ur 6800, gently push the heat sink away from ur card, and look at the ram chips, the themal pads should be touching them. Before i removed my stock hsf on my bfg 6800 gt oc, i noticed that i could push the heatsink away from the ships, wasnt mounted right. undo the screws and us isopropyl to clean up the thermal goo off the chips and get some artic silver 5 or new pads and re-apply. i would try these out first before Rma anyhting
