My Computer Keeps Shutting Down

Hello all

Just recently I installed an ATI Radeon X1900XT into my computer. It runs beautifully, but for some reason it has a problem where the computer keeps shutting down during games. No shut down sequence or anything, the power just cuts.

I don't think it's a problem with temperature, because the CPU never goes above 50 C and the video card never goes above 60 C. Also, I don't think it's a problem with the PSU because I have an Antec NeoHE 550, which should be good enough to run crossfire 1900's. I'm also fairly certain it isn't because of a virus, Norton checked everything out fine.

I'm at my wit's end here, I really want to get this problem fixed!
Thanks, and here are my system specs:

Asus A8N-E mobo
AMD 64 3200+ CPU
1GB RAM
ATI Radeon X1900XT
Antec NeoHE 500 PSU
200GB Hard drive (I don't know what kind)

asus have said there is a problem with neo supplies and their m/b,it has supposed to have been fixed it would depend on how long ago you bought the supply and if it was new stock,as to whether this is the cause

The 12V output is 11.90V.

see what readings you get under load, this program will let you have it on screen and you can see if the voltages drop futher
they are within tolerence on idle, but you would expect it to hold the 12v

Okay, so I checked the voltages with SensorsView Pro, and nothing was out of the normal. The 12V was at 11.80V the second before it shut down.

Another thing that I noticed: The odds of the computer shutting down are drastically reduced by closing all of the ATI software in the task manager. I'm running ATI's latest driver version, Catalyst 6.6.

although the tolerence is allowed to drop to 11.4 you usually have problems when it reaches 11.7
uninstall and reinstall catalyst, try the previous version

My System

12V reading below 12V on a brand new PSU doesn't sound very good. If it's not too late I would suggest returning the Neo and getting a minimum of the Antec TruePower 550.

My System

I second the idea of testing with another power supply. This sounds like what often happens when a power supply can't give enough juice.

Also, how long into playing games does it shut off? Does it do it when you just start, or after you have been playing for an hour or two? Power supplies drop their max output when heat rises, so if your case is getting too hot (and x1900's produce a lot of heat), then it could be dropping under the required amount.

How many case fans do you have, where are they located, and what direction are they blowing?
