Maybe i damaged something...
Hi, I recently bought all new bits for my pc, making a whole new pc. When I tried to play games using mynew pci-e 256Mb nVidia 6600GT I foujhnd there were errors so I took the card back and they said that it was faulty. For the time it took them to test the card I used my old, now spare and crappy, pc. When i got my gfx card back yesterday I swapped out all the hard drives and such I had been using in my old pc and put them into my new one again. I also decided to take out the floppy drive from my new pc and put it into my old pc as this was going to be given to my dad since he doesnt have a computer and he still uses floppy discs.
After doing so I booted up my new pc again with everything that had worked previously (I actually used me new pc again for a day before swapping out the floppy) and found that there was no signal from my monitor! I rebooted and watched carefully, it appears as though the monitor has a signal during the beginning, checking hardware and such and then the windows loading screen. However after this the signal is lost! I assumed I had knocked something as I was taking the floppy out so I tried removing and reseating the gfx card, and then later the ram after that didnt work but neither were successful. I tried putting the floppy back in and reenabling it in the bios but this didnt work. I'm at a loss. Im concerned that I have damaged either my gfx card or my motherbord (which in total cost me upwadrs of £250 which I cant afford to replace now!), esepcially since when looking through the bios, if I scorll down using the down arrow it mostly works fine, however when vI use the up arrow the bios freezes and I have to cut the power! If anyone can help I would heap a thousand praises onthem! I really cant afford any more expenses as well as eating daily! Thanks Tony |

Hello, thanks for the help, unfortunately I tried this and I cannot see any loose connectors and I have tried unplugging and replacing some of the power cables and just generally checked all the wires i could get my hands around but still nothing.
I am getting very concerned that something has been damaged now and hope one of you may have some solution or experience with this problem. Thanks again |

Yeah I reset the bios. All that acheived is disabling my hard drives until I disabled RAID settings!
The power unit is 800w so it cant be underpowered! Besides this it worked fine until I took the floppy drive out. My system is as follows: Processor: 3.2Gb P4 Mb: Gigabyte GA-8NSLI Pro RAM: 2x 1Gb DDR2 Modules, 444Mhz GFX: Gigabyte nViadia GeForce PCI-E 6600GT SLI (only got one connected, its just its possible to use it as SLI). |

Hi, I've fixed the problem!
It turned out that it was corrupted graphical drivers causing this problem. In the hope that I can help other people with a similar issue, here is how I found out what was the problem. I booted the pc up in safe mode and it came on fine, the monitor didnt lose signal! From here I simply reinstalled the original graphics drivers and everything was hunkydory! I guess I knocked my hard drive or something as I took the floppy out and this causes corruption of some files on my hard drive, unfortunately the graphics drivers being some of those affected! Well thanks a lot for trying to help Tony |
