I'm having the same problem- I just bought a new motherboard, everything is connected correctly, but the monitor stays in idle mode, and there's nothing I can do.

list your system specs
are you getting the post beep and seeing the post screens have you connected the auxillary power plug to the m/board and to the video card if it requires it
