7800GS No signal output.

Hi there,
Having a few problems with my new POV 7800GS. Installed it last week and on boot had no signal to the monitor. I read a few articles suggesting this was PSU related, so I promptly upgraded my PSU to a Enermax 460W with 32A on the 12v line. I thought even if it was underpowered that I might atleast get to see the bios boot etc !

So anyway, installed the new PSU yesterday and still had no luck on boot. So I thought maybe the card was to blame, so I installed it in another machine I have (which has a 300W rated PSU with only 18A on the 12v line!) and it worked ok.

So im a little stumped. What would cause no output at all ? I have tried switching monitors and that made no difference. I have also been switching over to an older graphics card and thats been working fine.

I suppose the motherboard is probably to blame ? I should probably flash the bios, although the only version I can find is as old as the PC. Are there any settings in the bios I need to be concerned about ?

Any help would be very much appreciated !

Regards,
Sam

System spec:
Dell Dimension 8300,
3ghz P4
1gb ram
Mobo - EPoX EP-4SDA5+ (which has no onboard video btw!)
PSU - Enermax® FMA Series Power Supply - EG465AX-VE(G)FMA (460 Watt)
GFX - Point Of View GeForce 8300GS

I'm having this same problem with an MSI Nvidia 7300. I just installed a new motherboard, and this is the only PCI express card I have (I have a Radeon 9800 XT, but there are no AGP slots on new motherboards anymore). I can't really do anything since there is no monitor output.

Whats this suppose to be?

Only thing I could really see is 1 of 2 things, that motherboard dont support the video card, which being a dell wouldnt surprise me none, or the video card is a defect. YOu may wanna check with the Dell website to see about compatibility.

Also I have done this before by mistake, but did you plug in the power cord from the PSU into the Video card? thats if its made like that.

1. Disable the onboard video
2. Try another monitor
3. Try another video output

Sorry that should be 7800GS.
Well its not a Dell proprietry motherboard and it should support upto AGP 8X with the AGP 3.0 interface. The only thing is that it supports 1.5 volt cards only. Would this be a problem?

The machine is powering on and the graphics card fan is working (and yes i have put the power cord in ! :) ). I have tried another monitor and video output, and there is no on board video to disable.

Since the card works in another system I find it hard to believe the card is at fault.

Cheers
Sam

sounds to me a compatibility issue then, if it only supports 1.5v cards, the 7800 maybe require more, 2v or whatever it is, I aint certain for sure if voltage is the problem.

How old is your Dell system?

Does that mean theres a problem with the voltage? It does say explicitly in the manual 1.5volt AGP cards only. The graphics card does say it can work with AGP 2.0 (2X/4X) and AGP 3.0 (8X). The system is about 3 years old - Dimension 8300.

Cheers,
Sam

Idea

well i dont know how many of you guys are interested in this but hopefully my experience can help someone down the way.

My local computer fix-it shop have finally figured what the problem is with the card, my hard disk!

They say windows is corrupted, driver conflicts. And i sed fine flash the drive and ghost my data, but now ther saying that it is taking along time for the pc to boot when they power it up with my hd in, (never noticed a problem myself) and they say my old girl is failing. They said i could take my pc away as is but i would stil b in the same position.

So i say yea take my money install a most proberly uneeded hard-drive and jus let me have a working PC with working GFX card. Thats all i wanted all along. atleast all this new stuf is under warranty!!!

*regrets ever attaching tht artic cool fan to his old GFX card.

Hopefully now 3months and £290 down the line i will have a working PC. Heed the lessons kids :P

Re: 7800GS No signal output.

I know this comes a little late, but I have just been sitting here scratching my head wondering why my monitor was displaying 'no signal'. I then had a brain wave. The fans in my case are not powered by the motherboard but directly from the PSU. I didn't have a case fan attatched to the motherboard, so I found an old cpu fan and plugged it in, pressed the power switch and voila, the monitor burst into life!
