only grayscale to tv?

i installed windows xp pro sp2 on a computer with a radeon 9600, and i have it hooked up to my tv. however, there is no color. its just grayscale. even when it posts there isnt any color. i have installed the drivers and it still grayscale... the only thing is that it flickers back and forth from grayscale to dull color rapidly.

i have it thru s-video with a composite adapter for my tv.

does anybody know how to fix this?
would be appreciated.

1. The tv-set is not s-video compatible.

2. The channel used is not set up for an s-video signal.

3. The pc sends a pal s-video signal to an ntsc tv or vice-versa.

i plugged in my other computer (with a 5900xt) to that same tv and it shows color because it has vivo. however when i plug the composite cable in it goes black and white...
the tv is a zenith, stero, with no s video... but it has one set of composites/rca

its like the svideo to composite adapter turns it gray. ive tryed 2 they both do.
i dont know.

If the tv-set lacks the s-video connector, then most probably it is not s-video compatible...
...and that brings us to the #1 reason stated for the problem you're facing...

Here's the fix...

I know I am resurrecting an old post but I had the same issue today.

My Radeon 9600 has a 7 or 8 pin S-Video output. When I attempted to connect this to my TV (20" Sylvania with NO S-Video jack) I initially used a 4 pin S-Video to RCA adapter. This resulted in a grayscale image.

I then searched through the goodies that came with my 9600 and found an S-Video to RCA adapter that had the correct number of pins. I installed this and my TV now shows a color image.

Make sure your S-Video to RCA adapter has the correct number of pins!
