In-game distortion, freezing and crashing.

For about a year or so, I was able to play a range of PC Games without difficulty. Such as Ghost Recon, Raven Shield, Morrowind and Battlefield 1942 & Vietnam.

But now whenever I try to play these games, and now C&C: Generals, everything is fine during game play for one or two minutes - then everything goes to pieces.

The screen begins to lag and the background of the game turns black and reappears, everything goes really slow, objects disappear, controls unresponsive etc...

Then about now it usually freezes. Sometimes I can Alt-tab out of it and get back into it to find everything fine again, sometimes not, either way in less than a minute the same thing will happen again and alt-tab won't work, the computer freezes and either stays that way, or turns to a blue screen where is says it is 'dumping physical memory'.

This has lasted through 2 reboots and it's driving me nuts!!!

btw, I have a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440.
