Nvidia GeForce MX 420 Problem!!!
Hello. Recently, I've had my share with computer problems and things were looking up until yesterday when I tried to play the MMORPG, Final Fantasy XI. I randomly crashed and when I logged back onto my computer, I sent an error report and it said that my video card was the problem. No problem... I download the latest driver, which I believe was this one: http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp_2k_91.31.html
To get there, I went to this page: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp First, I chose "Graphics Driver". Then I went to "GeForce and TNT2". Finally, I chose "Windows XP/2000" (I have Windows XP). Since I have a Nvidia GeForce MX 420, I'm guessing choosing those options would indeed send me to the correct driver since it's as close as I can get to GeForce MX 420... I install it... reinstall my computer and then attempt to play Final Fantasy XI. It works... but with mega issues. The screen begins skipping all over the place and believe me, it's just an ugly site. Would anyone be able to help me? Also, once before, sorry I initially forgot to mention this, the game crashed and when I started my computer back up, everything was in grey and white and such and in low color quality or something. I can't remember if this was before or after I installed the, what I think is the correct, driver. This problem was fixed and has been fixed ever since I restarted the computer after that problem. Finally, some information on the computer. When I go to the control panel --> System I learn the following information: I am running Microsoft Windows XP Professional Version 2002. I have Service Pack 2 (is that not the most recent, =/)? My computer is an AMD Athlon XP 2200+ with 1.80 GHz, 512MB of RAM. Thank you to anyone that at least tries to help. |

Do you have another video card on hand? If so, uninstall the drivers, swap the cards, and install the appropriate drivers for the card you put in. See if the problems persist.
You could also try back-dating the driver, to see if the newer problem goes away. The 61.77's were good, stable drivers. You can download them here.

That sounds EXACTLY like the rig my brother used when we were in the FFXI beta program. Are you using the latest 9x.xx drivers? If so, you may want to revert to the older 84.xx drivers as the latest ones are still a bit buggy.

I accidently let automatic updates update my driver and umm... it's not working. AND when I try to download any of the past drivers, it says it can't be extracted because it's corrupt or something. Is it possible that EVERY single download I make is corrupt?

The possibility does exist, but it's VERY rare unless you've got a seriously borked system. Try restoring your PC using the System Restore utility.
As a tip: I always do custom Windows Updates because of problems like you had with drivers. I prefer updating those on my own.
