Hi,
I have dell laptop model inspiron 8200 with nvidia card gefocer 440 Go. The problem is, whenever I start my computer and get into Windows XP, everything is ok for just about 20 seconds, then bits of the image start distorting and soon the whole system blocks ending with a blue screen. Next time I reboot, the image on the screen has alternate vertical stripes which get a little wider with time until the whole screen is dificult to read. From that point on, there are no worsening problems, but it is anoying to work like that. I think the problem is not with the nvidia driver as I have a dual booting system and the problem is present always, even when in the booting menu in text mode. The problem seems to do something with heating since the first time I turn on the computer after a period of not using it, there are no stripes, but once loaded the system the first time, subsecuent reboots will start with the screen in that state unless I let the machine cool off a bit. While in text mode, muy screen has stripes too, and is garbled with symbols and letters, though one can see that it is working. Any help on this? |

Welcome to TSF!
I can agree wih your assesment on heat buildup being a culprit. You can try taking the unit apart to clean the inside, especially the heat sinks for the CPU and GPU.

After cleaning the laptop with a can of compressed air, you should get a cooling pad. I would highly recomend this one, I use it and it works great.
