one or two?
Hey, I've been looking around for a new gaming computer, I have everything picked out but the sound card. My question is weather two get one higher powered card such as nVIDIA GeForce 7900GT 256MB, or two SLI nVIDIA GeForce 6600GT 256MB. Any sugestions would be welcome.
Thanks! |

My suggestion would be to get the high powered card. You will see more performance enhancements from the benefits of a higher end card. The majority of games that are out today will run fine on any one card 6600gt or better, therefore two in SLI will not benefit the performance as much as the added features of the 7900gt. Then in a year or two when games are much more demanding you can slap another 7900gt in there for less.

For a new machine I'd definitely get the one 7900GT rather than a pair of slower cards. Right now a 7900GT is fast enough to run current games pretty well but a couple of years down the road it will be straining to keep up. At that point you'll be able to add another much cheaper 7900GT to give your machine a boost when you need it.

Definitely get the 7900GT. The two 6600s will not even come close to the 7900GT in terms of performance, and you'll be stuck with them. If you get the 7900GT, you'll get a lot more performance, and you'll be able to increase it later by adding a second 7900GT.

If you want REALLY high power, go with the GeForce 7900GTX. But I doubt you will need that much power.
