Monitor switches off randomly - asus v9999 TD

I am having a problem with my new graphics card which I just purchased. It is an ASUS V9999/TD 128MB DDR. It boots up my PC fine, but whenever I use an application that uses Direct X, such as 3D MARK 2001, my screensaver or any games, my pc stops working. Well what happens is the monitor goes straight into standby, and the pc stops. I have to then re-boot my PC. What happens on the next re-boot is that the pc starts booting up, the windows xp loading screen appears, then a minute later the monitor goes into standby again. I then have to switch the pc off for about 10 minutes before I can succesfully boot into XP again. Once working it runs as normal for hours up until anything DirectX is run!

What is causing this? I have done a fresh install of Windows XP and purchased a 550W PSU (was using a 400W PSU) and now 3D Mark 2001 runs better, but a lot of games still keep crashing (HL2, JKII, GRAW, FarCry) regularly, or if I play the game for five minutes then exit the game, my PC crashes again. Its driving me crazy.

My card temps are normal and smart doctor says my card is ok.

I have also noticed that the blue led on the fan fluctuates. Is it a hardware fault?

Any help much appreciated!

did you buy a quality psu,it sounds like the line is fluctuating
this will put the voltages up on screen so you can keep an eye on them

thanks for the advice. I will give it try. Am I safe to continue using the card, or should I remove before getting a new PSU?

Hi another quick question before I go and purchase another PSU. My supplier on e-bay where I got the 550W PSU has another one which is a 500W PSU. See specs below:

ATX-500W AMD/ P4/ Fan Speed Adjustable/2 Blue light-up Fans
1 x SATA, 6 x 12V PIN , 2 x 1.44 FDD, 1 x P4 Connect Pin, Aux.6P, 20P ATX M/B
See-Through Clear Acrylic Cover
Green UV Sensitive Wire Sleeve & Connectors
1 x SATA, 6 x 12V PIN , 2 x 1.44 FDD, 1 x P4 Connect Pin, Aux.6P, 20P ATX M/B
3.3v*28A, +5V*40A, +12V*17A,-12V*0.8A, -5V*0.5A
2 LED Light Up Fans
With Fan speed adjuster
Power Factor Correction [Passive-PFC] > 0.78
Thermal Control Function
Complies with CISPR22 230 VAC Operation
Over Voltage / Over Power / Short Circuit Protection
100% Hi-pot & Function (Chroma) Tested
100% Burn-in Under High Ambient Temperature (50°C)

On the 550W PSU I currently have, the +12V line is rated at 12A on the sticker on the PSU, yet this 500W PSU above has an increased rating of 17A. Will that be enough to power my graphics card?

Thanks

Chris

rubbish
look for something that puts out 24a
that 500w is equivilent to around a quality 300-350w psu and not much use to you

Hi Again!

Well I purchased a new psu and I am still getting problems, although I don't think it is the psu causing problems now. The random crashing has stopped which I am pleased with, but I am getting a lot of texture corruption in the following games:

FarCry Demo - some textures suddenly go black, or green. still playable tho
Fear Demo - some textures are light blue, some are dark black. The shadows seem to take over the screen making it impossible to see what to shoot!
Empire at War demo - lucasarts logo and the following logo appear corrupted, the title page is so corrupted you cant see anything! It was worked twice in the past and the game is playable.
Doom 3 - works like a treat!?!

I am using the latest nVidia drivers 84.21.

Is there anything else I can check, or do you think the video card has had it?

not the volts, but the amp reading off the label on the side of the power supply
run with the monitor box up on screen and see if the voltage moves lower under the stress of a game

ahhh.... on the label it says 32A. I am using SensorsView Pro to monitor the voltage. I ran FarCry for about 4 minutes and it dropped from 11.90v to 11.80v and back up again when finished. On the old psu it was 11.20v - 11.30v.
