Seriously...brightness?

I have a winXP machine. 1.9GB processor (Athlon), 512 megs of ram, etc etc. My graphics card is a Radeon 9550. Nothing special, but, it works.

I am assuming this is a video card problem, but I am not too sure, so here it is.

I play Asheron's Call, mainly. And one day, while adjusting my settings, I found that I could not adjust my screen brightness. I just set it to sync with my refresh rate and called it good. Well, last night (2 weeks later), I tried to webcam with someone. My webcam brightness was allllll the way down, and would not adjust.

I changed out my AGP graphics card with an old Geforce PCI card, installed the new drivers, and tried again. STILL could not do it...in game, or for my webcam. Took out that card, put in my radeon, reinstalled the drivers. Nothing.

I have also swapped out the monitor with no avail.

Is there something I am overlooking? Any other suggestions?

Are you unable to adjust brightness on the monitor or within the games and applications? The first thing to check would be the brightness/contrast/gamma controls within the display control panel.

Thank you for the reply.

I CAN change the brightness/gamma/etc inside of my Catalyst control panel.
