onboard video disable problem

i am running a dell dimenson 2300 1.7 gig on xp

The socket for the onboard port is wornout and loose. It is so bad hence now i have no video, hence i cant see to get into bios or to install the software for the new video card.I can wiggle the onboard cord and get the screen to come up but not enough to stay on without holding.i tried removing the bios battery in hopes that it might reset and allow my pci card to run but it didnt.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks DoPeFi$h

install the pci, connect the monitor to it
then tap f8 while booting and see if the boot option come up
if they do choose vga mode and go into the device manager and disable the onboard

no if you cannot see the post screens and get into the bios, you will not be able to format anyway
it looks like a new m/board,unless you can wedge it into an on position or are an expert with a soldering iron

Hey dai what i was thinking, i have numerous pcs on a network anyway i was gonna take a bare-bones sys i got ready and stick this hard-drive in and format then stick back in the original pc w/ a formated drive and see if that would bring up defaults for the video????

Thanks again looking for your reply

your bios brings up the post screens before anything else comes into play
