MIDI softsynth?
My computer has an overly crappy onboard sound card (realtek ac97, I think). I still play many old games on my new computer which use MIDI music. Problem is that I HATE the Windows XP built in MIDI synth. I tried to find a free softsynth or whatever you call it, but anything I find is a broken link or only works in the program it comes with. What I'm trying to say is that I need something like what Wingroove did (saw it once); installed a MIDI driver/instrument set, I believe.
I found the Yamaha XG thing a while ago, but it didn't work at all on my computer. Anyone know of something that works? |

I used WinGroove back in the days of '98 but chose to use my computer's audio instead because it could use sample banks. I also tried out the Yamaha SoftSynth S XG-70 software but wasn't terribly impressed. Software synthesis has pretty much faded away as modern soundboards have gone from being a hobbyist's toy to a major feature of multimedia computers.
