Dude! Or should I say, Geez! the reason why you get this feedback or echo is usually becuse your mic is too close to your speakers or your speakers are too loud.

What you say comes out the speakers and goes back in the mic, then comes out the speakers again and goes back in the mic... and so on, try turning down the volume on speakers or the mic gain.

If thise doesn't help let us know and we'll go to plan B

I have a similar echo problem (although it only happens when I use programs that rely on the mic like teamspeak, Xfire and yahoo messenger) interestingly it only happens in yahoo messenger during a conference call and not one on one conversation.

I can talk into my mic in windows (desktop only) with it unmuted and I can hear myself speak, no echos no problems. When I use one of the programs mentioned above, it appears as though anything that can be heard from the speakers get picked up on the mic. Its not a case of the mic too close to the speakers causing feedback, as I have unplugged (yes no connection to the pc) the mic and then adjusted the volume to get that little beep. This beep then echos in the speakers (stop the application that uses the mic and it doesn't echo.

This is really strange. The only thing I can think it might be apart from the AC97 chip itself is the fact that the front panel audio connectors for the mic and speakers share the same ground connection.

Any clues as to how to fix this would be great.

Asus A8N-e motherboard with onboard ac97 850

Cheers
