Fixing Dad's PC.... What has he done?!?!?

Two weeks ago my dad purchased a laptop. Unfortunately, he has installed a programme called cakewalk which appears to have disabled the sound drivers. I am attempting to restore this for him but have hit technical difficulties. The AC97 drivers appear to have been taken over by a vinyl recording driver (this is part of cakewalk) - I have moved this, deleted all cakewalk files and repaired the drivers by defaulting top the Realtek AC97 drivers. However, there is still no sound from the laptop and I still receive a 'code 10' error when running diagnostics. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Try reinstalling the chipset/AC97 drivers from the motherboard CD, then reboot.
