Several problems with sound cards/devices.. need help!!!

Here's the big story... my computer hard drive was destroyed in hurricane katrina. It is an HP media center p.c. i sent it to a computer technician, and when I got it back, there was absolutely no sound at all. No matter how much I plugged the speakers in etc. it still did not work. I contacted HP about 5 times, each time they sent me some type of new sound driver that still did not make my sound work. After having another computer technician take a look at it, he recomended getting a new sound card. I purchased a sound blaster live 24 bit soundcard and installed it into my computer. It says that the drivers and the soundcard are installed in my computer, but with errors. Everytime I reinstall it the errors keep coming up. Even with the errors after running the installation my sound does not work. When I go to my sound and audio device tab on the control panel, it reads " No audio Device" and I cannot get my computer to pick up on the speakers I plugged in. I tried about 3 different sets of speakers and the computer does not read any of them. Please help me with this. I am fed up with trying to talk to h.p. on a daily basis and not get this problem resolved. Thanks so much.

thanks

Thanks for the help. I can see it on device manager. When I pull up the drivers it says that they are installed, but not functioning properly. I tried to reinstall the whole bit and i got the same error I usually get " ERROR: CANNOT LOAD STREAMCI.DLL." i get a popup saying that about 20 times, then it stops. Still no sound
