Speaker madness

Hi,

I am trying to hook up many speakers to my sound card. I am using a 4.1 speaker system and two bookshelf speakers (which require no power, surprisingly enough). When I plug all of them in, I noticed that the sound quality (bass + amplitude) is less than when I just have the 4.1 plugged in. Can someone explain why and/or how to fix it so that all of the speakers will sound off at the same bass + amplitude?

Thanks

The sound card utilizes a preamp output only.
There needs to be some sort of amplifier between the
sound card and book shelf speakers.
When you hook up the bookshelf speakers,it is loading down the
sound card and causing an impedence matching problem.
