Massive Mic feedback...Soundblaster live 24 bit

So i have a soundblaster live 24 bit card and reguardless of whether i have my speakers or headset plugged in, i get mad feedback on my mic. Occasionaly it will wok, but most of the time it doesnt. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or if you had the same problems and how you fixed it.

If it happens when you have headphones plugged in it can't be 'feedback.' By feedback, you mean the high pitched screech caused by your speaker audio entering your mic and looping around until it destroys your ear drums, right?]

What kind of mic is it?
