XP Audio Problems - Tried Many Soundcards.

I am working on my roomates machine and he mentioned he uninstalled c media.

this is an XP machine with a VIA chipset onboard.
now it is not the onboard sound or other soundcards that is the problem. i know because i have downloaded every possible driver for VIA chipets on this motherboard.

whenever i go to run SndVol32 it says there are "no active mixer devices"
and it then tells me to install/add new hardware.

I belive there were files from xp that somehow were disabled or deleted.
Directx (DxDiag ) shows "No sound card was found. If one is expected, you should install a sound driver provided by the hardware manufacturer."

also the xp disk is nowhere to be found. =\ im sure there is a way to find out what exactly went wrong. what the hell is going on?

Hi,

On the motherboard disk that came with the computer, you should have the sound drivers for the onboard cound system. Try going into the sound area in device manager and deleting any drivers in there for any sound card that you have tried. Then, load the onboard drivers from the motherboard disk when you boot back up. That should get you going. I would guess that some things you have tried to load is corrupting anything that you have tried to do. Therefore, you need to get rid of the vestiges of those before you try to load anything more.
