mic and earphones problem

hey...when i plug earphones and mic in my sound card i dont get any sound through them.....they work fine as i have tested them on another pc....any ideas? do i need to enable anything to make them work thanks!

Go to sounds & audio [start/control panel] then the audio tab and in the sound recording section click on volume and clear the mute in the microphone box.
If it is cleared already post back for other ideas.

well it has no mute option....but there is select and tht has been ticked....the thing is ...another mic works fine...but when i input this it jus doesnt work!!.......any ideas? i have tested this though on another computer and they work fine.
