AC'97 Issues

Hi, i have Gigabyte 8VT-800-L, motherboard. Running windows xp sp2. My problem is i cannot update my drivers newer than version 3.61, any drivers newer than this will make my sound distorted (ive noticed only happens with the bass, playin with equilizer and turning bass down completely fixes it, but i cant live without bass) or windows will tell me my sound drivers are missing.. ive tried the drivers on my motherboard page, realtek site, and viaarena. All have same effect with newer drivers.

Ive formated my computer because gigabyte said there are issues with sp2. Even with sp1 it didnt help. Does anyone have any ideas why this would happen? to me its just too weird...

Thanks!

You may just want to forgo using the driver level equalizer and stick with what your player may have. I use Winamp for just about everything and the equalizer it has beats the crap out of the one for my audio drivers.
